This was a classic that won best picture, and it was a long movie. It took about 45 minutes for this film to pick up some steam and start going, but being a drama based on a book, the direction changed a few times during the course of the film. We started with Vito Corleone as Don Corleone or The Godfather, and to being, he was the main character of the film. It was some good establishing and his authority was unquestioned, but nothing much was going on and no direction was indicated. When he was put in the hospital, we finally got some motion, but I think once Michael Corleone is placed center stage as the main character, the film finally got its pacing together and took off, even though we had to endure Sonny as the head of the family while Michael was in Sicily. It ended up being a solid film and certainly worthy of its Oscar. However, this movie should only be approached if you're in the mood to be thought-provoked.
