Cecil B. DeMille's classic bible story in a 220 minute masterpiece. The story of Moses is vividly told in this really long movie that even has an intermission. We have rounded characters with histories, motivations, and purposes in the film. Each person contributes something to the story at hand and fulfilling every verse that the Bible gives for one of the Bible's greatest prophets.
The big kudos go to the writers of this film, since the Bible gives very little info on the goings on around Moses that shaped his world and pushed him to where he ended up, so it was up to the writers to create much of what goes on in this mvie and make it works to the story's benefit -- something that it does very, very well.
The story of Moses includes some vivid effects and the Ten Commandments delivers. A pillar of fire blocks Pharoah's path to the Israelites while they escape across the land beneath the Red Sea that has been parted for them by God. It's a wonderful effect to see played out. We also get the stick transforming into a snake, the water turns to blood before our eyes, the mist of the Angel of Death covers the ground, and the finger of God writes the Ten Commandments.
Not only a great viewing for one who believes the Bible, but it stands as a must see classic in the annals of film history.
